When we recorded the song "O Rhosi", we had a lot of fun doing the multiple vocals. It is after all a song usually sung by atleast ten people with intricate harmonies and energetic footwork dancing to go with it. We have tried to put in ten harmonies as the song has two sides calling and responding and the tati sound makes a perfect foil. The only sound missing is the deep timbre of male voices and drums. We can surely dream on :)
What is this Rhosi Rhosi all about?
Rhosi is a wild flower found in the Phek District of Nagaland. The Rhosi stands as a metaphor for youthfulness, the enercy and enthusiasm of youth, beauty, strength and vibrance of being young, healthy and alive. It is a call to live life to the fullest and sing and dance while you are at it.
Your Rhosi days would mean your hey days.

We shot the fun video at The Orchard, Gurgaon with Wilderness Films and poor Azi has been lamenting the fact that she couldn't be a part of the video of one of our top favourite song. She was too sick to make the trip with us then and we were in a rush to get it done. So there. January in Delhi. It was a cold day and we had a bit of a drizzle and we had to be barefoot and our jewellery added to the cold weight. But it got done over giant subway clubs and hot tea. We have to hand it to our ancestors who lived and worked and did everything weighed down by the heavy jewellery, the cold and of course, headhunting enemies who could strike anytime. Whoa! Aren't we glad to be in this time and age? Yes. Now we can get all dolled up and look pretty and smile and get our pictures clicked and not have to carry baskets or walk miles to collect wood.
We have performed O Rhosi numerous times with Chakhesang friends and cultural troupes and the fun just doesn't end. Did we mention we have recorded three versions of O Rhosi? Will share them with you all soon. Until then, look up the lyrics and sing along next time. Hiyohey!
